01Which platforms does Etch run on?+
Etch runs on macOS 11 and later on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs through the universal build, and on Windows 10 1809 and later on x64. The Windows installer fetches the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime when the machine does not already have it. Every plan is the same app on both. Linux is next.
02When does billing begin?+
Self-serve checkout is open for workspace admins. Paid Pro, Studio, and Studio+ start a 10-day trial at Stripe Checkout. You pay $0 today; unless you cancel, Stripe charges the full selected prepaid period (monthly, quarterly, or 6-month) on day 10 and the subscription renews at that interval until cancelled. Members cannot change workspace billing.
03Does the free trial require a card?+
Yes, for paid plans. Pro, Studio, and Studio+ start with a 10-day trial that requires a payment method. Free never needs a card. Members cannot change workspace billing.
04Can I pay quarterly or for 6 months?+
Yes. Workspace admins choose monthly, quarterly (10% off three months), or 6-month (15% off six months) at Stripe-hosted checkout. There is no yearly self-serve price. After the 10-day card-required trial, the first charge is the full selected prepaid period. The recurring managed-AI allowance stays the same monthly size and resets once per calendar month of the term.
05How does included AI usage work?+
Studio includes 5x more usage than Pro. Studio+ includes 10-20x more usage than Pro. Prepaid quarterly and 6-month terms still issue that monthly allowance once per calendar month of the term. The workspace Usage tab shows the percentage remaining and the next reset date without exposing per-call or per-model prices.
06Does Free include hosted AI?+
No. Free supports up to 5 seats and does not include Etch-managed image or video generation. Personal BYOK covers hosted chat; making frames needs a paid plan.
07Can I bring my own provider key?+
Yes for hosted chat. Personal and approved workspace BYOK text routes remain optional and do not consume the managed allowance. Image and video generation is Etch-managed on paid plans; it is not a BYOK path.
08How do the CLI and MCP request limits work?+
This separate meter applies only when external agents connect through Etch CLI or Etch MCP. Each workspace receives its plan's included external-agent requests for each UTC calendar month. It does not measure normal in-app workspace activity or local-only MCP calls.
09Which CLI and MCP attempts count?+
Authenticated requests from external agents using Etch CLI or Etch MCP count after workspace membership and attribution succeed. Normal Etch app activity, non-member attempts, and local-only MCP calls do not.
010Does purchased extra capacity or BYOK increase the MCP limit?+
No. The CLI and MCP request quota is separate from Etch-managed AI billing. Purchased extra capacity applies only to managed AI, and BYOK changes who pays the model provider; neither adds CLI or MCP requests.
011What happens when the managed-AI allowance reaches 0% remaining?+
Only a workspace admin can set a monthly extra-spend limit, including $0 to keep extra spend off. When enabled, purchased extra capacity can continue managed AI up to that monthly limit. Hosted chat can switch to approved BYOK, or the workspace can wait for the next allowance reset. Members can view usage but cannot change billing.
012Will members see model prices or individual AI call costs?+
No. Members see the managed AI percentage remaining and the next reset date. Workspace admins control the plan, payment details, invoices, auto-reload, and monthly extra-spend limit.
013What happens if I cancel Studio or Studio+?+
Eligible Studio members may be offered three months at $33 per month, and eligible Studio+ members may be offered three months at $67 per month. You can accept the offer or continue to cancellation. Pro does not receive this retention offer.
014How does Enterprise work?+
Enterprise is sales-led and priced around the organization. Contact the Etch team to discuss scope, deployment, security, and commercial terms.
